Rates
Square Inch Price
Rates range from $.025 per square inch to $0.035 per square inch based on the density and intricacy of the quilting design chosen.
Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .025 = $120.
My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.
Batting
You are welcome to supply your own high quality, low-pile batting, or purchase from my stock of 90" wide, cotton, Warm & Natural Batting
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price. Batting is $12 per yard and is cut based on the shorter side of the quilt + 5 inches.
For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" of the batting of your choice.
65" = 1.8 yards, $20 for batting
Thread
I stock Glide 40w thread in a variety of neutral and popular colors, and I use the same thread in the bobbin as the top of the quilt. Specific colors are available upon request, but may affect the turnaround time.

My personal style attempts to match or blend thread color with the lighter areas of your quilt. But this is YOUR quilt! Let me know if you have a preference on thread color.
Thread is included in the per square inch rate.
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in Walnut Creek, CA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I recommend sending your materials enclosed in some kind of sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly. Hard sided boxes are recommended over soft envelop mailer due to potential damage to soft packaged when they are sent through sorting machines.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.
Other Costs
As mentioned above, batting is not included in the square inch price. I'm required by the State of California to collect a 8.75% sales tax on the quilting service.
POTENTIAL/OPTIONAL CHARGES:
-
Backing assembly is $10 for a simple assembly (less than 30 minutes) and $25 an hour for complex back assemblies (greater than 30 minutes).
-
Quilt preparation (fixing borders, pressing seams, trimming excessive threads) is $25 an hour with a minimum 1 hour charge.
-
The non-cotton backing surcharge is $10 (small quilts) $15 (large quilts). Non-cotton backings such as fleece, minky, or snuggle fabrics are excessively stretchy and warrant careful watching to ensure that there aren't any folds or tucks. They can create difficulty when loading and may take extra care in pattern choice.
